Peter Scott Goodlad (b. 2 December, 1857, Tingwall, d. 13 November, 1936, Lerwick) was a Lerwick Town Councillor between 1893 and 1920, becoming the Provost from 1915 until he retired.

Biography

Peter was a native of Tingwall and served as a shoemakers apprentice under David Affleck. He established Goodlad and Coutts with his cousin J. J Coutts in 1891 and his brother James became a partner. Principally, the business made footwear, sea-boots and high lass boots. They exported across the United Kingdom, colonies and even as far as India.

The firm opened up branches in Sandwick, Fraserburgh, Peterhead and Kirkwall. Peter travelled to England, Holland and Germany on business with the firm.

The Shetland News describe him as 'staunchly Liberal' as well as being abstinent from alcohol and a strong temperance advocate.
